Police dogs join UK search for missing Sian O'Callaghan

Wiltshire Police say they are now seeking information about a green Toyotoa Avensis seen in the area at the weekend.

WILTSHIRE POLICE ARE CONTINUING their search for missing 22-year-old Sian O’Callaghan, who was last seen leaving a Swindon nightclub early on Sunday morning, and have brought search dogs teams in to assist them.

A signal from her mobile phone placed it at Savernake Forest shortly after she left the club, and police say she could only have made that distance in such time by car.

Yesterday, police appealed to the hundreds of people assisting them in searching the 4,500 acre forest to stay away, saying they believed they had narrowed down the search area significantly and were close to locating the missing woman.

Today, police issued an appeal for any sightings of a car believed to have been in the area on Saturday. Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher said:

I am urgently appealing for any witness sightings of a green Toyota Avensis estate with taxi markings seen between 3am and 4am and 12pm and 9pm on Saturday 19 March between Swindon and Savernake.

The BBC reports that specialist dog teams have been brought in to help search key areas of the forest.

O’Callaghan’s family issued a statement today thanking “the sheer numbers of people who have given up their time to help search for Sian”. They also said they were very grateful that a reward – of at least £20,000 for information which helps locate Sian – has been offered and hope it will encourage people to come forward.
