Man charged with murder of two police officers in Manchester

Dale Cregan faces four murder charges and four charges for attempted murder following his arrest in the aftermath of the brutal murder of two Greater Manchester police officers on Tuesday.

A MAN HAS been charged with the murder of two police officers in Manchester earlier this week.

Dale Cregan, 29, has been charged with the murders of police constables Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes as well as the murder of two other men earlier this year and the attempted murders of three men and a woman.

He is to appear before a magistrates court in Manchester tomorrow, the Crown Prosecution Service said this evening adding that the murder of the two female police constables had “shocked and appalled the whole country”.

Bone, 32, and her colleagues,Hughes, 23, were fatally injured in a gun and grenade attack on at a house in Tameside  on Tuesday afternoon.

Cregan has also been charged with the murder of Mark Short on 25 May of this year and his father David Short on 10 August.

He faces further charges of attempted murder of Michael Belcher, Ryan Pridding and John Short on 25 May and Sharon Hark on 10 August.

In a statement the Crown Prosecution Service said: “The CPS and Greater Manchester Police are absolutely determined to deliver justice for those who have been killed and for their families, and we will continue working closely during the ongoing investigations into these deaths.”
