Poll: Would you support a gun amnesty?

After the shooting of a six-year-old boy, should a more radical approach to gun control be considered?

THE SHOOTING OF a six-year-old boy in Dublin adds another low point to the regularly tragic problem of gun crime in society.

Has it come to the point where the authorities should consider a more varied approach to gun control? A number of years ago there was a call for a knife amnesty in Ireland, but could this go further?

Gun amnesties have been used internationally where people, including those involved in crime, are allowed to hand in their firearms to police without fear of prosecution as part of efforts to reduce the number of weapons in circulation.

Today’s poll, Would you support a gun amnesty?

Poll Results:

Yes (3246)
No (800)
Not sure (291)
Perhaps in the future but not now (184)
