Poll: Own up, have you ever texted while driving?

The activity has been cited by 10 per cent of drivers as a major cause of ‘near misses’. But have you ever done it? Even once?

PHONE USE — AND in particular the sending and reading of texts — has been identified as the most common distracting activity for drivers on Irish roads.

A new survey by Continental Tyres has found that texting was cited by over ten per cent of drivers as the activity that caused most “near misses”.

The Road Safety Authority says phone use behind the wheel makes motorists four times more likely to crash, and have warned the activity can have lethal consequences.

So, have you ever texted while driving?

Poll Results:

Sometimes, while stopped in traffic (2150)
Never (2111)
I used to, but not after I had a 'near miss' myself (799)
Yes, regularly (445)
