Poll: Should Ireland bring in a tax on wealth?

Is it only fair to ask high earners to pull their weight? Or is it just too punitive?

ONE OF THE two candidates for the Labour leadership last night said that the country should look at bringing in a tax on wealth.

Alex White’s comments echoed those of Sinn Féin, who have called for a third rate of income tax for people earning over €100,000.

Figures show that between €50 million to €312 million a year could be brought in from the ‘wealth tax’. However critics say that the tax would punish high earners who are already paying top rates of income tax and other charges.

So today we’re asking: Should Ireland bring in a wealth tax?

Poll Results:

Yes (4102)
No (3361)
I'm not sure (706)
