TV microphone catches woman threatening to throw shoe at pope's head

The remark was aired live on CNN.

BIG CROWDS TURNED out in Washington today to see Pope Francis appear on a balcony of the US Capitol following his address to Congress.

But it was inside, in the chamber of the House of Representatives, that an unusual plot was picked up on when a CNN microphone caught a woman discussing her desire to throw a shoe at the pope’s head.

She outlined her plan – to “take my shoe off and throw it at his head” – just before a blissfully unaware pope was led into the chamber.

Fortunately for security, the visit passed off without incident.
