Man arrested for drink-driving after Garda car is rammed at a checkpoint

Both have been released from hospital.

TWO GARDAÍ NEEDED to be taken to hospital after a car rammed their patrol unit at a checkpoint.

The incident occurred in Portarlington, County Laois early this morning.

The driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. He was taken to Portlaoise Garda Station, but was later released.  A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Both gardaí have been released from Tullamore General Hospital after receiving treatment for minor injuries.

The Garda Síochána Ombudsman’s Commission (GSOC) has been notified of the incident.
