"My heart has been shattered" - wife pays tribute to man who died in toxic fume accident

Alan Harris died when he was overcome by fumes while working in the Drumnigh Estate in Portmarnock.

THE WIFE OF a man who died on Wednesday after being overcome by fumes while working on a drainage system in Portmarnock, north Dublin, has paid tribute to her “soulmate”.

Father of two Alan Harris died when he was overcome by fumes while working in the Drumnigh Estate in the town on Wednesday. His brother Steve, who tried to save him, was also overcome and remains in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital.

In an emotional Facebook post, Alan’s wife Tracy paid tribute to her husband.

Tragically yesterday I lost my best friend and soulmate Alan Harris… My heart has been shattered into a million places yet again.
Thank you all for the kind words.
Funeral arrangements will be on RIP later this evening. Thank again x please send all your prayers to his brother Steve Harris who is still fighting for his life after trying to save Alan’s one x

The two men, both experts from the drain-clearing and service firm owned by Alan, Draintech, were working on a sewer in Drumnigh Wood, when Alan got into difficulty.

He collapsed into the pit, with Steve attempting to rescue him, but also being overcome.

Footballer Robbie Keane, a cousin of the two men, paid tribute to them last night.
