Gardaí await post-mortem on body found in Navan apartment

A man has been arrested but he is remains in hospital under garda supervision.

GARDAÍ ARE AWAITING a post-mortem examination on the body of a woman found at an apartment in Navan, county Meath yesterday.

The deceased, who is believed to be in her 30s and from eastern Europe, was discovered at about 7pm Friday at Bective House Apartments in Beaufort Place.

A man was arrested immediately but was taken to hospital where he is being treated for unspecified injuries. He is also thought to be in his 30s.

Gardaí confirmed that he continues to be detained under supervision at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda but detectives are awaiting medical advice before questioning him.

The scene has been sealed off for a full technical and forensic examination. The office of the State Pathologist has been notified and an autopsy is expected today.

There were two children at the scene when the body was discovered yesterday evening. The death is being treated as suspicious but the investigation is yet to be upgraded to one of murder.
