Gardaí investigate armed robberies at post offices in Kerry and Kilkenny

In Kilkenny, a man was arrested a short time after the robbery and a sum of cash was recovered.

GARDAÍ IN KILKENNY and Kerry are investigating two separate armed robberies which occurred earlier today.

Three men raided a post office in Waterville, Co Kerry at around 11am this morning. A quantity of cash was stolen and the three men left the area in a small blue car in the direction of Cahersiveen.

Gardaí intercepted an 03 D navy blue Mazda car which was pursued and crashed in the Beaufort area of Killarney.

Shots were discharged by gardaí but no injuries have been reported.

The car was abandoned and the suspects took off on foot through fields. Two men in their 30s have been arrested and are being held at Killarney and Tralee garda stations.

A third suspect is still being sought and the Regional Support Units from Cork and Limerick as well as the dog unit are on the scene. The incident has been referred to the Garda Ombudsman because shots were fired.

Robbery in Kilkenny

In a separate incident on  Main Street in Mullinavat at around midday, a lone raider in his mid 20s entered the post office.

He was carrying what is believed to have been a firearm and left the scene with a sum of cash.

He was apprehended by gardaí a short distance from the post office and was brought to Thomastown Garda Station. The stolen cash was recovered.
