Gardaí make arrest after man (68) killed in apparent hit-and-run in Tipperary

GARDAÍ HAVE SAID they arrested a man this evening in relation to a hit-and-run death in Tipperary last night.

A 68-year-old man was struck at about 10.20pm last night while walking on the Ballysloe-Glengoole Road near Poynestown.

Gardaí have said that “all indications at this stage are that the deceased was struck by a vehicle which failed to stop”.

A man in his 40s has been arrested this afternoon.

A garda spokesman said: “A man in his 40s has been arrested by gardaí investigating a fatal collision at Glengoole, Thurles on Sunday 30 July. The man was arrested this afternoon and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Thurles garda station.

“The scene of the collision has been reopened to traffic.”

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who can assist in the investigation to contact them at Thurles garda station on 050 425100, on the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or at any garda station.
