Prisoner found dead in Mountjoy cell

The man was a father of four from Louth.

A PRISONER WAS found dead in his cell at Mountjoy Prison at 6:30 this morning.

Douglas Ward, 38, was serving a 16 year sentence for the manslaughter of 18-year-old Niall Dorr.

It’s believed he died from a suspected drug overdose. He was found with a cup of hooch in his hand, which is a brew made in prisons.

He was in a secure unit in the prison.

Ward was a father of four from Louth.

The Prison Service is now launching an investigation into the death.
