Investigation launched after Mountjoy prisoner dies

The prisoner was found unconscious in his cell late last night and was pronounced dead at the Mater Hospital.

AN INVESTIGATION HAS been launched after a prisoner in Mountjoy died.

Colm Caroll, who is in his 40s and from Cork, was serving a 16-year sentence for drug offences.

He was discovered collapsed in his cell by prison staff last night and paramedics based in Tara Street were called to the scene at around 12.45am.

He was rushed to the Mater Hospital were he was pronounced dead.

The Irish Prison Service is investigating his death.
