YESTERDAY’S DEFEAT OF Irish bantamweight boxer Michael Conlan has brought a cloud of controversy down over the judging standards both in amateur boxing and at the Olympic Games in general.
Prior to this Olympics, the separate issue of doping in athletics was very much to the forefront of conversation after the controversial decision to allow Team Russia to compete after the majority of their track and field athletes were found to be guilty of systematic doping.
