The man atop the cherry picker on Kildare St this morning.

Protester parks crane outside Dáil

Gardaí arrest protester after cherry picker machine was parked outside Government Buildings earlier this morning.

A PROTESTER HAS PARKED a crane outside Government Buildings on Kildare Street this morning.

The man then sat in the cage, which was extended into the air, and played music from the vehicle.

Gardaí spoke to the man, and he agreed to come down. He was subsequently driven away in a garda car, according to RTÉ.

The cherry picker crane had signs on it, including one marked “Anglo Toxic Bank”. Another sign indicated that TDs who supported the Budget would be voted out of office.

Gardaí have blocked off the vehicle, and have pulled down the protest placards.

This morning’s protest comes after a man drove a cement mixer truck painted “Anglo Toxic Bank” up to the gates of the Dáil in October. Joe McNamara, 41, appeared in court late last month charged with criminal damage in respect of the incident.

Garda presence outside the Dáil has been increased ahead of today’s Budget announcement.
