Attacks on Quinn Group electricity poles condemned

The PSNI and Northern Ireland Electricity have condemned the attacks, with a Sinn Féin MLA calling them “disgraceful actions”.

ATTACKS ON ELECTRICITY poles connected to Quinn Group property have been condemned.

The PSNI and Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) have reiterated their condemnation of those causing deliberate damage to the electricity network in South Fermanagh.

Sinn Féin MLA for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, Phil Flanagan, said that the attacks took place on Quinn Group property and called for this type of criminal damage to be stopped.

This is the latest in a long line of disgraceful actions, carried out by people who have no interest in the local community. The people of this area are united in that they want to see the existing jobs within the Quinn Group retained and this ongoing campaign of destruction is undermining the efforts that are being made to protect these jobs.

Police are appealing for information following a number of incidents of criminal damage in the Derrylin and Kinawley area over recent weeks. They said that the vandalism of electricity poles in this area is putting the public at risk.

“There are great risks with this type of activity and those involved should stop this immediately,” warned Inspector Roy Robinson.

You are putting yourself and others in danger. Any contact with live electricity equipment can result in a fatality.

A spokesperson for NIE said: “This practice is disruptive, time consuming to repair but most importantly extremely dangerous for the local community. If this potentially lethal activity persists, it is only a matter of time before someone gets severely injured or killed.”

There have been three separate acts of vandalism on poles in Derrygonnelly and Kinawley areas since 20 March and police said that all lines of enquiry are being investigated at this stage.

Police would ask anyone who may have witnessed these incidents or who has any information to contact them at Enniskillen on 0845 600 8000. Information can be given anonymously to the the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
