Appeal for witnesses to murder of Real IRA figure in Cork

Aidan O’Driscoll was shot in the back a number of times on a street in Cork city yesterday.

GARDAÍ ARE APPEALING for witnesses to the murder of former Real IRA Chief of Staff Aidan O’Driscoll, who was shot dead in Cork yesterday evening.

The 37-year-old was shot from behind, close to the Church of the Annunciation on Old Commons Road, Blackpool at about 5pm.

O’Driscoll – known as ‘The Beast’ – was taken to Cork University Hospital where he as later pronounced dead. A post-mortem is due to take place today.

Gardaí this morning appealed for witnesses to the gun attack, and in particular anyone who may have seen anything unusual in or around the church between 3.30pm and 5.30pm.

Two partially burnt-out cars have been found in different locations nearby – one on Redemption Road in Blackpool and the other in Killeens.

Gardaí are also asking anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in these areas to contact them at Mayfield garda station on 021 4558510, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
