Drugs were found concealed in candles, in cassava leaves, and having been ingested.

REVENUE’S CUSTOMS SERVICE seized drugs with a street value of €135,000 in a number of incidents over the weekend.

On Friday, a 43-year-old male was discovered to have 250grams of herbal cannabis valued at €5,000 concealed in his baggage, frozen, in 8 balls of cassava leaves (African spinach).

The Congolese national, who had an address in Belgium, had arrived on a flight from Charleroi. After the discovery was made, he was arrested and handed over to the gardaí at Dublin Airport.

The following night, Saturday, officers discovered 1.75kgs of herbal cannabis, with a value of €35,000, concealed in candles in the luggage of an Argentinian man.

The 36-year-old was resident in Spain and had arrived on a flight from Alicante. He was arrested and handed over to the gardaí at Dublin Airport.

On the same night, in another operation, officers stopped a 29-year-old Hungarian male as he arrived on a flight from Madrid. They suspected he had ingested drugs and he was handed over to the gardaí at Dublin Airport also.

He was later found to have ingested 99 pellets of cocaine which weighed approximately 1.3kgs and were valued at €91,000.

All three men have appeared in court charged with drug offences and been remanded in custody for a week, the Revenue said today.
