191 litres of wine and over 300,000 cigarettes seized

REVENUE OFFICERS SEIZED a large amount of cigarettes, tobacco, counterfeit alcohol and wine in a joint operation with gardaí at the end of last month.

The seizure was made in Belturbet, Co Cavan.

Officers seized a total of:

  • 300,000 cigarettes;
  • 4.4kg of tobacco;
  • 191 litres of wine;
  • and 68 litres of counterfeit alcohol.

They also discovered a partially assembled alcohol still – used for making counterfeit alcohol.

Revenue saisd that the combined total of the seized contraband had a retail value of over €160,000 and presented a potential loss to the Exchequer of €127,000.

Investigations are ongoing and officers are saying that they are looking for a prosecution.
