Man in his 30s arrested in relation to death of Rita Apine at house in Kilkenny

The mother died from injuries she sustained at a house in the Freshford area.

GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED a man in his 30s in relation to the suspicious death of Rita Apine at a house in Freshford, Kilkenny, last week.

The man is currently being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act where he can be detained for 24 hours.

Paramedics were called to a house at Bridge Street shortly after midday where Apine, who was 29-years-old, was discovered with serious injuries. She was taken to St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny where she later died.

Gardaí are attempting to establish whether the woman’s injuries were accidental or sustained in an assault.
