Woman dies after being hit by a car in Mayo

The 49-year-old was walking near the village of Breaffy.

A WOMAN HAS died after she was struck by a car in Mayo in the early hours of this morning.

The woman was walking  near Breaffy Village on the N60 Castlebar to Claremorris Road at about 3am last night when she was hit by the car.

The 49-year-old was taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar where she was later pronounced dead.

Gardaí say the scene has been preserved for forensic investigators and and local diversions are in place.

Any witnesses to the collision or those travelling on the N60 near Breaffy Village around the time of the incident are being urged to contact gardaí.
