Young cyclist (18) dies after being struck by car in Co Cork

The accident happened on the N71 this evening.

AN 18-YEAR-OLD cyclist has died after his bicycle was hit by a car near Rosscarberry, Co Cork this evening.

The young man was cycling at Barley Hill on the Clonakilty to Skibbereen Road when the collision happened at about 7.10pm.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem is expected to be carried out tomorrow evening.

The driver of the car, a man in his late 60′s, was uninjured.

The road is currently closed for a technical examination and local diversions are in place.

Any witness to the crash are being asked to contact Clonakilty Garda station on 023-8821570 or any garda station.
