Young man dies after being hit by a car in Carlow

The incident happened yesterday evening on the R448 road between Carlow and Castledermot.

Updated 8.17am

A MAN HAS died following a road accident in Carlow yesterday evening.

The incident took place just outside Carlow town on the R448 road to Castledermot when the 29-year-old man, who was a pedestrian, was hit by a car at around 7.20pm.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital for a forensic examination.

The male driver of the car, who was the sole occupant, was not injured.

A section of the road has been closed to facilitate a forensic collision investigation and diversions are in place.

The road is expected to re-open sometime later this morning, according to gardaí.

They have appealed for any witnesses to the incident, particularly those who may have travelled along that road, to contact Carlow Garda station on 059 913 6620, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

Imagine that, going out without a yellow vest, well that makes running him down on christmas day ok then doesn’t it. Do you have some information on what he was wearing? And how do you know that his clothing was a contributing factor? Did you carry out the investigation into the incident?

If you don’t drive recklessly it wouldn’t matter.

I approached a guy walking on the wrong side of the road in pitch black clothing, on a pitch black night, and I didn’t kill him – but then I was actually driving within the speed limit so that may have had something to do with it.

It wasn’t the drivers fault at all.
