KERRY COUNTY COUNCIL says it is investigating after a picture that shows a dead cat having been painted over during road remarking was shared at the weekend.

The picture was shared by Animal Help Net Kerry, showing the dead cat on the road near Ballyheigue. Rather than move the dead cat, the road painting crew simply painted over it, sparking outrage in the comments below the picture.

The council said that while road marking is done by a private company, they are investigating the incident, which they called “unfortunate”.

The remarking of roads is carried out by a private company, under contract to Kerry County Council. We are examining the issue and will consult with the contractor.

“Kerry County Council regrets this unfortunate incident and apologies for any distress caused.”
