Road traffic accident claims life of teenage girl

A teenage girl was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash between two cars in Portumna, Co Galway.

A FATAL ROAD traffic accident claimed the life of a teenage girl in Co Galway this morning.

This is the second fatal collision to take place in the past 24 hours.

Gardaí have named the victim as 17-year-old Claire Prendergast from Golden in Tipperary.

Gardaí are currently investigating the fatal collision, which occurred at Thornfield, Portumna, Co Galway, at 11.25 am today.

The crash involved two cars and the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were two other female occupants of the same car, who were taken to University College Hospital Galway.

In the second car, there were two men and two children.

At present their injuries are not known.

The road at the scene of the crash has now reopened following forensic examinations.
