Man in his 50s dies after car and bus collide in Roscommon

The driver of the bus sustained minor injuries.

GARDAÍ IN ROSCOMMON are investigating a fatal road traffic collision between a car and a bus.

The collision occurred on the R446 on the Old Athlone to Ballinasloe Road at Ballydangan, Co Roscommon at 10.15am.

A man in his 50s was fatally injured when the car he was driving collided with the bus.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Roscommon hospital.

An 11-year-old girl who was also travelling in the car received minor injuries and was taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.

The driver of the bus and three passengers were also taken to Portiuncula Hospital with minor injuries.

The road is closed in both directions to facilitate a forensic collision examination and diversions are in place. Road users are asked to divert onto the new motorway and use alternative routes.

Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact the gardaí in Roscommon at 090 6638300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
