Rostrevor staff "owed wages"

Staff who worked at the now-closed Rostrevor nursing home have said they are still waiting to be paid wages and receive P45s.

REPORTS ARE EMERGING today that staff at the controversial Rostrevor House Nursing Home are owed thousands of euro in wages.

The Irish Examiner reports that the money was due to be given to 14 staff during a meeting yesterday with Sarah Lipsett, the facility’s former owner.

However, that meeting was cancelled and the money and P45s not given to staff.

Rostrevor House Nursing Home was closed after Dublin District Court judge Victor Blake said he was satisfied elderly residents in the facility were at risk.

The nursing home was the subject of allegations of serious elder abuse, which were denied by the owners.

SIPTU is also calling on the Government to provide former workers at Rostrevor House  with alternative employment, today’s Irish Times reports.

Frank Connolly, press officer for SIPTU, told TheJournal.ie that staff met with SIPTU representative David Field earlier today and that they are hopeful they will receive the money owed.

There will be a further meeting involving the owner of the home and SIPTU later this afternoon.
