That's all folks: Applause from senators as 4 week Christmas break announced

Over in the Dáil, it’s a markedly shorter break. TDs will be back on 14 January.

THERE WAS A smattering of applause in the Seanad this evening, as the upper chamber’s four week Christmas break was announced.

That followed the passing of the contentious Water Services Bill, which will pave the way for the imposition of household charges by Irish Water.

The house will be off until the afternoon of Tuesday, 20 January.

Members of the Dáil have a slightly shorter break.

They’ll be back in the chamber almost an entire week before their Oireachtas colleagues, in the afternoon of Wednesday 14 January.

So.

That’s it for 2014, as far as the Houses of the Oireachtas is concerned.

As one TD put it last year… Have an ‘Amazeyballs’ Christmas.
