Search for body of a man who went missing off Kerry coast continues

Stephen Godson-Ukiwo is believed have jumped off a cliff, hours after his girlfriend was found dead at her home in Tralee.

THE SEARCH FOR the body of a man who went missing off the cliffs at Ballybunion in Co Kerry has resumed this morning.

Stephen Godson-Ukiwo, 26, is thought to have taken his own life after emergency services discovered the body of his girlfriend, Katarzyna Bartowiak, at her house in Deerpark, Tralee on Tuesday afternoon.

The man is said to have been located by Gardaí at the cliffs in North Kerry an hour after his partner had been found dead at her home.

A six hour stand off ensued before the man reportedly jumped from the cliffs.

The Garda Ombudsman has been called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Marine Rescue centre on Valentia island has confirmed that eight members of the Ballybunion coast guard have resumed their search for the body this morning and that it will carry on until the weekend.

The couple’s two-year-old son was also found at the house in Tralee, he was unharmed and is being cared for.

Preliminary results of a postmortem on Bartowiak, originally from Poland, indicate that she had been strangled.
