Search for missing walker suspended for the night

The search is scheduled to resume tomorrow morning at 7am.

THE SEARCH FOR a missing walker on Mweelrea mountain in Co Mayo has been suspended for the night.

Gardaí told TheJournal.ie that the search is for a 38-year-old male who was reported to have been walking in the area.

The man set out yesterday on his walk, but was reported missing at around 4pm today.

While the search has now been suspended for the evening, it is intended that it will resume tomorrow morning.

They will be undertaking a search along the route that the man was going to take.

A spokesperson from the Coast Guard said that the search will resume at about 7am tomorrow, and will involve the Coast Guard helicopter from Sligo, the Mayo Mountain Rescue Unit and the gardaí, as well as Coast Guard search teams from Westport and Cleggan.
