SEAT's Leon Cupra 300 hot hatch is now available in Ireland

SEAT has revealed the updated version of its hot-hatch Leon Cupra.

THE NEW SEAT Leon Cupra is now available in Ireland in two different body types: the five-door version and the ST (Sports Tourer) version.

This new Leon Cupra is the most powerful model in the range ever produced by SEAT. Its 2.0-litre TSI engine puts out 300hp which is 10hp more powerful than its predecessor and the maximum torque has been increased from 350Nm to 380Nm.

This maximum torque is available from 1,800 to 5,500rpm. With such a wide torque curve, the result is a powerful response from the engine barely ticking over all the way up to hitting the rev limiter. This is thanks, among other things, to variable valve timing on the camshaft and direct and indirect injection.

The maximum speed is electronically limited to 250km/h regardless of whether the six-speed manual or six-speed auto gearbox is chosen. COemissions are between 156g/km and 164g/km depending on the model. Average consumption for the five-door version is 6.8 litres/100km, going up to 7.2 litres/100km for the CUPRA ST DSG 4Drive.

Yup, that’s right, the SEAT Leon CUPRA will also get four-wheel drive in the ST version with the double-clutch DSG.

Features of the chassis include Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC), the Progressive Steering System and a Haldex VAQ self-locking differential, which is characterised by its hydraulic function and electronic control. After analysing each tyre’s grip, the Haldex clutch’s disks open and close in order to deliver 100 per cent of torque to only one wheel.

There are also five drive modes to choose from – Comfort, Sport, Eco, Individual and CUPRA. The accelerator, gearbox, DCC, Progressive Steering System and the self-locking differential have a sportier response when the CUPRA mode is selected.

Prices start at €36,085 for the five-door manual model and rise to €45,020 for the ST DSG 4Drive model.
