Sex offender prevented from travelling under Northern Ireland's first ever Foreign Travel Order

The order prevents the offender from travelling to any worldwide country besides Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.

PSNI OFFICERS FROM the Public Protection Unit have today been successful in obtaining Northern Ireland’s first ever Foreign Travel Order.

The order, which was granted at Newtownards Magistrates Court earlier, prevents a registered sex offender from travelling to any worldwide country besides Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.

Child protection

The orders can be applied for by police for the purpose of protecting children where a convicted sex offender has given reasonable cause to believe they may pose a risk to children outside of the UK.

The order granted today prevents the individual travelling abroad for any reason for a period of 18 months.
