Shell lorry stuck at Co Mayo crossroads

Mayo County Council is working with contractors to create an emergency road widening at the crossroads.

A SHELL LORRY transporting equipment to the Shell refinery project is blocking the Glenamoy crossroads in Co Mayo.

It is understood that the lorry was carrying 150 tonnes of equipment, including specialist tunnel-boring machinery, to Bellanaboy.

RTÉ News reports that the vehicle got into difficulty while navigating a turn on the narrow roads. Mayo County Council is now working with contractors to create an emergency road widening at the crossroads.

Last night four men were arrested following a stand-off between Gardaí and Shell to Sea protesters at the site of the controversial project.

The demonstrators had locked themselves to drums filled with cement in an attempt to block Shell from delivering specialist tunnelling equipment to the Corrib gas project.
