Man shot as he flees masked men in University of Limerick car park

The man is in a critical condition but is expected to pull through.

A MAN IS in a critical condition in hospital after he was shot in a University of Limerick car park.

The man was parking his car in the grounds of University of Limerick at 6.50am today when he was approached by two masked and armed men.

As he fled on foot, he was shot a number of times.

He was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick, where his condition is described is described as critical. However he is expected to pull through.

The assailants left the scene in a car, which was discovered on fire nearby.

Gardaí are at three separate crime scenes in the Limerick area and an incident room has been established at Henry Street Garda Station.

They are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have any information to contact them on 061-212400, the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
