Sinn Féin bailout protest clashes with gardaí

One garda suffered minor injuries in the protest against the bailout in Dublin city centre this afternoon.

A GARDA SUFFERED minor injuries during a scuffle at a Sinn Féín protest in Dublin city centre this afternoon.

The protest was held outside European Union House on Dawson Street, the headquarters of the European Commission in Ireland, to mark the one-year anniversary of the Irish economic bailout.

An estimated 40 protesters dressed as IMF officials – some wearing clown wigs and other props –  gathered outside the building . The garda is believed to have been injured when he was accidentally hit in the face with a prop briefcase. His injury was not believed to be serious.

The protesters had gathered to protest government cooperation with the EU/IMF/ECB bailout of the Irish economy, which took place one year ago this week.

Sinn Fein has promised to hold more creative protests against the government for its support of the Troika deal in the run up to the Budget on 6 December.
