Skellig Islands photographed by one of the Irish Air Corps crew as they few overhead. Sergeant Damian Faulkner

Irish Air Corps capture great shots of wintery Skellig Islands

Sergeant Damian Faulkner captured these great photos of the islands while he was on routine maritime patrol.

WHILE OUT ON a routine maritime patrol last week, the Irish Air Corps captured these amazing photos of the wintery November conditions off the County Kerry coast.

Rough seas

The photos were taken by Sgt Damian Faulkner as they flew past the islands, which are famous for their thriving gannet and puffin populations.

There is an early Christian monastery on the larger island, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

While on patrol that day the crew were told to divert to Cork Airport to answer an air ambulance call and as the crew waited for the medical team Sgt Faulkner took a photo of one of the aircraft they use, a CASA CN-235.
