FIREFIGHTERS IN SLIGO are continuing fight a massive fire in the Ox Mountains in Sligo.

The fire broke out on Wednesday and has spread across the mountains since. While most of the fires have been put out, one in the Moy Forest area of the mountains is still burning.

Sligo Fire Brigade, Coillte and the Air Corps have been involved in the operation over the last number of days.

It is hoped that the fire will be brought under control within the next number of hours, but that is contingent on wind conditions remaining as they are.

An Air Corps aircraft dropped around 48,000 litres of water on the fire yesterday.
