A MAN WHO helped stop a terror attack on a train in France has been stabbed in the United States.

The Air Force Times reports that Spencer Stone is in a “stable condition” after being attacked last night.

With the help of Anthony Sadler and Alek Skarlatos, he helped overpower a gunman on a Paris-bound train in August.

Stone, a member of the US Air Force, was attacked in the early hours of this morning in Sacramento. KCRA reports that it initially believed Stone would die from his injuries, and police began treating it as a homicide.

Sacramento police said an assault had taken place Wednesday night, but could not immediately confirm the victim’s identity.

They said the attack is not believed to have been an act of terrorism:

A statement on the Sacramento Police Department’s Facebook page read:

It is believed that the victim was out with a group of friends when a physical altercation led to the victim being stabbed multiple times in his upper body.
Detectives were called to the scene to assist with the investigation and the victim is currently being treated for what appears to be non-life threatening injuries.

Stone is assigned to Travis Air Force Base in California.

More details on this to follow. Additional reporting by AFP and The Associated Press
