Two men hospitalised after stabbing incidents in Co. Tyrone overnight

One man was stabbed in the head and another several times in the body in a series of incidents in Cookstown.

A MAN WAS stabbed in the head and another man was stabbed several times in the body in Co. Tyrone last night in a series of incidents police believe to be linked.

Police investigating the disturbances in Cookstown have arrested a total of eight men aged between 17 and 30 on suspicion of a number of offences including attempted murder. Other charges include burglary and grievous bodily harm with intent.

The first stabbing took place in the William Street area at around 2.30am when a man in his 20′s received a stab wound to his head. The second happened about an hour later in the Milburn Street and Moneymore Road area where a second man, also in his 20′s, suffered multiple stab wounds to his body.

Both men were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries which are not believed to be life threatening. One of the men has since been discharged.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who witnessed either incident to contact the PSNI in Cookstown on 0845 600 8000 or anonymously via Crimestoppers.
