The NYPD bomb squad is assisting in a sweep of the lower Manhattan monument.

THE STATUE OF Liberty has been evacuated after a suspicious package was found.

The NYPD bomb squad is assisting in a sweep of the lower Manhattan monument.

Several photographs posted on Tweeter showed a long line of tourists waiting to board a return ferry to Manhattan.

The National Park Service did not immediately confirm the cause of the evacuation to AFP.
