6 stereotypes you'll recognise if you went to college in Dublin

Did you go to college in Dublin? We can relate.

NO MATTER WHERE you went to college, or even if you skipped it altogether, you’ll be familiar with student stereotypes. If you went to college up in the big smoke, then these stereotypes* will be even more familiar.

(*Fair warning – we know not everyone conforms to these generalisations. But you have to admit, there’s a grain of truth in there somewhere…)

UCD

UCD straddles two stereotypes – the typical South Dublin socialite and the Agricultural Studies student up from beyond the Pale. How these two stereotypes rub along together is anyone’s guess.

It’s probably a good thing there’s a lot of space on campus to avoid turf wars. (No pun intended.)

TCD

Trinity has the reputation for being elitist. As Samuel Beckett put it, Trinity is for “the cream of Ireland – rich and thick”. Whether or not these things are true (and you’ll find plenty of past students who will argue either side), Trinity is definitely the place to study something obscure and ultimately useless.

DBS

We’re no scientists, but we’re pretty sure if a field study was done in Dublin Business School it would reveal that the college actually contains more Ugg boots than students.

DIT

DIT, with its spread-out campuses and relaxed vibe, is like the happy family of Dublin colleges. They don’t need to see each other all the time, but when they do it’s a big session. Known for their partying.

DCU

We’re sure the Northsiders are proud nonetheless. Dougal is nothing to be sneezed at, after all.

NCAD

Art college is considered the preserve of the free-spirited, who might often forget to brush their hair or clean the paint off their Aran jumpers.  Don’t even bother enrolling if you haven’t got a cool, artfully distressed bike yet.

Actually, a bike is something that comes in handy for every Dublin college student. Are you in DIT? Fancy getting your hands on a bike, courtesy of Adverts.ie? Head down to DIT Aungier Street and Kevin Street on Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th of September for great giveaways and the chance to win a brand-new bike from Balde Bikes.

And if we didn’t get to your college (Griffith, NCI, ITB, looking at you) then let us know your campus’s stereotypes in the comments.
