6 of the best… summer fruit crumbles

Sweet, tangy, comforting – what could be better than a crumble? Here are some variations from around the web.

A RUSTIC CRUMBLE is surely one of the best ways of showcasing fresh fruits. Comforting, while not being heavy, the humble fruit crumble is very quick to make, and is incredibly versatile.

Best of all? Crumble is an excellent dessert to make in advance, reheating very well after just 10 minutes in a hot oven. A summer classic that makes the perfect post BBQ treat!

Starting to feel hungry? Here are six of the best fruit crumbles from around the web.

1. Summer Jumble Fruit Crumble, from The View From Great Island: This crumble uses a host of delicious summer fruits like raspberries, figs and peaches or as suggested in the recipe, whatever you happen to have in the kitchen! An idea last minute summer dessert bursting with flavour.

2. Caitriona’s Best Rhubarb Crumble, from Wholesome Ireland: Our very own Caitriona Redmond describes this as the best crumble she’s ever made, so it’s guaranteed to be a good one! This recipe uses oats and oat flour, so it is naturally gluten free too (just be sure to buy certified gluten free oats).

3. 20 Minute Crumble, from Natural Born Feeder: Blueberries, raspberries and pomegranate are just some of the fruits used in this super quick and healthy crumble. The addition of linseeds and chia seeds also give this dessert a great fibre kick.

4. Rhubarb and Amaretti Crumble, from Mirror Mirror: Amaretti cookies are an excellent addition to this traditional classic. This could be made in advance and simple reheated in the oven for 10 minutes, a brilliant post BBQ treat that would certainly please a crowd.

5. Peach & Raspberry Oat Crumble, from Donal Skehan: Peach and raspberries are at their best during the summer months, and the flavour combination works a treat. The slightly tart taste from the raspberries work really well here and, served with some vanilla ice cream, would make a perfect summer dessert.

6. Wild Blackberry and Apple Crumble, from Gimme The Recipe: What brings back memories of an Irish childhood summer more than picking blackberries? A crumble is one of the best ways to showcase the humble blackberry, and we all know that any food you harvest yourself tastes that bit better!
