Swords pair held captive in aborted Tiger Kidnapping

A gang broke into a home in Swords, making a woman go to work at a nearby post office while under duress.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING the circumstances surrounding a so-called ‘Tiger kidnapping’ in north Dublin last night.

A gang broke into a home at St Andrew’s Park in Swords last night, holding a man and woman captive there overnight.

The woman was forced to go to work at the Post Office in Balbriggan under duress this morning, while the man was removed from the house to an undisclosed location.

Gardaí became aware of the incident and responded to a call from the post office, with the result being that the robbery was aborted and the man released.

No money was stolen in the incident.

Gardaí have asked anyone who may have seen suspicious activity at either St Andrew’s Park, Swords or at Balbriggan Post Office, to contact the Balbriggan station at (01) 8020510.

Witnesses can also contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

A Garda spokesman said any suspicious activity within a week of the attempted burglary would be relevant to their investigations.
