THREE PEOPLE WERE taken hostage during a shooting incident at an industrial estate in the south-west of Sydney.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that a seven-hour siege began overnight Irish time at an industrial estate in Ingelburn.

“Police and emergency services responded to a reported shooting incident [in Ingelburn] On arrival, police found three males, one deceased, two others with gunshot wounds,” said police in a statement to media.

The dead man, aged 43, was the gunman.

Police were alerted to gunfire just before 11am local time, with heavily armed tactical response teams surrounding a signage business in the suburb of Ingleburn and shutting down nearby streets.

“On arrival police found three males, one deceased and two others with gunshot wounds,” said Detective Inspector Mark Brett.

One is undergoing emergency surgery, the other has superficial wounds to the lower part of his body.

Reports said the three were brothers and it was a domestic dispute rather than terrorism-related.

Three hostages were taken and held in a business in the industrial estate for a number of hours. Footage from the scene showed armed police in the area.

After a tense six-hour standoff, three more people walked free from the building after specialist police moved in. It was not known whether they had been threatened by the gunman.

The local area surrounding the industrial estate was in lockdown while the incident was ongoing.

The area remains cordoned off.
