Pictures: Stunning photos capture wreck of Tall Ship Astrid at dawn

Photographer Jakub Walutek has taken a series of pictures of the ship at daybreak over the last week. 30 crew members were rescued when the vessel ran aground on 24 July.

ELEVEN DAYS AFTER it sank off the coast of Kinsale in Cork, the Tall Ship Astrid remains in the water to the east of the town’s harbour.

Over the last week, photographer Jakub Walutek has undertaken a number of trips to the scene to photograph the vessel as the sun rises. The stunning results can be seen here…

This image, showing Astrid on her side still with some sails aloft, was taken at dawn last Tuesday.

The previous day – last Monday morning. Jakub took this shot at 6.30am

And from 5.13am on 30 July

All aboard were saved when the Astrid was forced onto rocks close to Kinsale on 24 July. It’s not been decided as yet whether she can be salvaged, and an exclusion zone remains in force around the wreck.
