Images: James Lawlor/Facebook who is in New Ross for the JFK 50 celebrations.
WHEN JFK VISITED Ireland 50 years ago, men shook his hand while women fussed about him making him tea and giving him a feed of buns, tarts and cakes.
One of the famous images from his visit in 1963 was the tea-pouring scene, which his only living daughter, Caroline Kennedy, recreated today with the Taoiseach, Enda Kenny in New Ross, Co Wexford for the JFK 50 celebrations.

I can see one slight difference between the two pictures. If you look very closely you will see that one contains an image of a great leader, respected, loved and trusted by the people who elected him. In the other you will see Enda Kenny!
Never gave FG my first preference vote but Kenny and Noonan doing a great job in saving what was a sinking ship Why can’t people give credit where credit is due.
Frank, take off your rose tinted spectacles and read the real background of the charismatic leader and you’ll find the leader in the 2013 photo comes out miles ahead.
@Tom…please enlighten us on how they are doing such a great job???Last time I checked our dole queues have gotten bigger since they took power and would be completely out of control only for emigration. Our health service is even worse than when Harney was in charge. They managed to turn promissory notes in to sovereign debt ensuring that mine and your children and grandchildren will be saddled with debt before they can even talk. Not one banker/politician/developer/regulator who caused this has seen the inside of a court room, never mind the inside of a jail cell. Suicide has reached epidemic proportions yet they do nothing about it. They have made savage cuts to the most vulnerable in society (respite care/carers allowance, fuel allowance for the elderly, and just this week cuts to children with special needs to name a few) while at the same time protecting the wealthy and tax dodging multi-national billionaires. Mortgage arrears are out of control yet they still rammed through property tax and with water tax on the way, that number is likely to grow exponentially. Politicians and senior CS figures are still paying themselves obscene wages and expenses despite the fact that we are broke. Cronyism is still alive and well in Leinster house (Mrs. Gilmore anyone???) I could go on and on all day but you see where this is going. So take your head out of Cabbage Kennys @ss for a minute and you might be able to tell the wood from the trees.
@John…read my post…I said he was handsome and charismatic….no more, no less. And I know all about JFK’s life story and trust me, the afore mentioned cabbage from Mayo isn’t fit to polish his shoes.
Frank
Let’s be very careful about the statistics we throw around as if we were experts. You claim that suicide has reached epidemic proportions and clearly link these data to economic performance for which you blame the Taoiseach. Well sir perhaps we should deal with the facts and in 2012 nearly five hundred people regretfully took their own lives in Ireland and this was a decline of sic percent on the previous year and reaches a figure just in excess of eleven per hundred thousand of population. These rates are substantially unchanged over the past ten years and are way below those experienced in many other EU countries.
Each of these cases is a monumental tragedy for our Society but should not be misused by you while trying to make a cheap political point. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Tom I think that Kenny and Noonan are two off the biggest ClusterF**ks going!! But I see you point they are getting somewhere but they’re just going the wrong way about it and making the joe soap pay for it…..
John C,
JFK was and is a political icon for hope and change to not only “oirish” Americans but for people who believe in the power of the democratic system to bring about positive change for the marginalized and oppressed all over the world. He ranks up there with Lincoln. Obama was heralded as having a Kennedy political style. Unfortunately it has proven to be all style and little beneficial substance.
I wish Enda Kenny was not involved in the stand in pictures as he is no JFK and that’s for sure.
Just compare our Plastic Catholic Taoiseach’s publicly expressed view on religion in politics versus those of the democratic candidate’s views expressed in his address to the Greater Houston Ministerial Association, September 12, 1960 Huston.
Of course times were different but the context and spirit of the speech is inspirational.
The Special Olympics world games in Ireland 10th anniversary took place this week. I wonder has Enda told the Kennedy family about the cuts (that aren’t cuts) to Special Education?
What an excellent use of his time. I’ll rest easier knowing that our glorious leader is taking time out from ‘rescuing’ the country to drink tea in Wexford. Monumental prat that he is.
I’m not working for FG or labour but I think Enda is doing a good job as our leader you have to remember we’re in this quagmire because of successive FF rule.
He has no balls, all he’s short is a frock and handbag! The Brazilian riots, are a result of Broken Promises by politicians and the Irish are still hibernating!
