13-year-old dies in single vehicle crash

The incident happened this morning near Annamoe in Wicklow.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after a teenage boy died in a road traffic crash this morning.

The boy (13) was in the car with another person when the incident happened near Annamoe in Wicklow at about 6.40am this morning.

It is believed the boy walked from the scene of the crash and was offered a lift from a passerby to Loughlinstown Hospital.

However, he died en route to the hospital after his condition deteriorated.

A post mortem is scheduled to take place this afternoon.

A man in his 30s who was driving the car was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and was brought to Wicklow garda station.

He is due to appear before Bray District Court this afternoon at 2pm.

No one else was injured in the incident.

The Roundwood to Annamoe road has been closed and garda forensic collision investigators are at the scene.

Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses who may have been  in the area at the time or who may have seen the crash or observed the two people walking on the road to contact them at Wicklow garda station on 0404 – 60140, the Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
