Disappointed? Here's how Temple Bar tourists felt about the pubs being closed...

Some had just heard about the ban. Others had made their own preparations.

FRIDAY LUNCHTIME ON a fine spring day in Temple Bar, Dublin…

Usually, the pubs and restaurants would already be bustling; it wouldn’t be unusual to spot the odd hen or stag party kicking off their evening early with an al fresco drink.

Today? Much, much quieter… Cafés were open alright, but ‘no alcohol today’ signs were taped to the doors of the many bars that line the cobbled city centre streets.

As TheJournal.ie visited, some tourists we spoke to had just heard about the Good Friday pub closure. Some said it didn’t bother them at all, while others had made their own preparations.

One man, from Sweden, said it fitted with his impression of Ireland as a deeply religious country…
