Take a break and watch a tampon dressed as a pirate teach you about periods

The Period Song.

A SWEDISH CHILDREN’S TV has written this catchy little ditty to help teach children about menstruation.

The ‘Period Song’ features various tampons dressed up and made into puppets, a rap interval as well as what looks like blood squirted onto the camera lens.

The song is sung by presenter Alex Hermansson, who also controls the tampon puppets at one point, and does a passable job at fake-playing a tiny guitar.

Unfortunately, the song and its subtitles are in Swedish, but The Guardian have taken on the task of translating it as follows:

It’s a thing that happens to girls sometimes

They don’t want to talk about it

Maybe they’re a bit ashamed

They don’t want us to know anything at all

But we know, that it, it’s something totally normal

We just need to be a little extra nice to them

Show a little patience

It’s just a little blood

And the chorus, “Period, period, hip hip hooray for period!”

It’s not the first time the SVT Kids Channel have gone for an attention grabbing video. Earlier this year, their educational cartoon featuring dancing penises and vaginas got some Swedish parents a little miffed.

It was so successful though that they released and English language version.
