THE CALL WAS put out, and dozens responded.

Radio stations across Ireland played a tribute to Tony Fenton at exactly 2.30pm, broadcasting one of his favourite tracks – I Say A Little Prayer by Artetha Franklin.

The radio legend died last week after a battle with prostate cancer.

Today, his friend and colleague Ian Dempsey called for Irish radio stations to join in the national tribute:

Dozens have commented online on how they were able to scan through their radio, and each station was playing the track. Both #NodOfRespect and #SayALittlePrayer are now trending in Ireland.

We did a quick run through all the major stations in Ireland, and found that the vast majority joined in – as did many community and college stations, including:

  • Today FM
  • 2fm
  • 4FM
  • 98FM
  • Beat 102-103
  • C103
  • Clare FM
  • Cork’s RedFM
  • CRCfm
  • East Coast FM
  • FM104
  • Galway Bay FM
  • Highland Radio
  • KCLR
  • KFM
  • Live 95FM
  • LMFM
  • Midlands 103
  • Midwest Radio
  • Newstalk
  • Northern Sound
  • Ocean FM
  • Q102
  • Radio Kerry
  • MidWest
  • Radio Nova
  • Shannonside
  • South East Radio
  • Spin 103.8/South West
  • Spirit Radio
  • Sunshine
  • Tipp FM
  • TXFM
  • WLRFM
  • UCC 98.3

If your local community station – or even a station abroad – played the track, let us know and we can add them to the list.

Among those who didn’t play the track were RTÉ Radio 1 (although a tribute was read out), RTÉ Lyric FM and iRadio. RTÉ Gold also broadcast the song on digital.

Some people took to Twitter to express their anger that 96fm didn’t play the track but its CEO has since explained what happened.

As you probably noticed, TheJournal.ie isn’t a radio station, but we’ll try our best…
